Smoothie recipe with berries, cinnamon and honey?
A berry, cinnamon and honey smoothie is a quick way to pack flavor and nutrition into one glass. Blend fresh or frozen berries with cinnamon and a touch of honey, along with a liquid base, for a drink that's both refreshing and satisfying.
Ingredients
- 1 to 1½ cups berries (fresh or frozen) — for flavor, color, fiber and antioxidants
- ¼ to ½ tsp ground cinnamon — for warm flavor and a small touch of spice
- 1 tsp honey (optional) — for sweetness and balance
- 1 cup milk, yogurt or a plant-based alternative, as a liquid base
- 3-4 ice cubes
Method
Add the berries, cinnamon, honey and liquid base to a blender. Blend until smooth, adding a little more liquid if it's too thick. Taste and adjust the cinnamon or honey, then pour and serve immediately.
A note on honey: it's optional. Berries are often sweet enough on their own, so start without it and add a small amount only if you want extra sweetness.
Health Benefits
Berries: They provide fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidant compounds, while adding natural color and flavor with relatively little added sugar.
Cinnamon: This fragrant spice contains naturally occurring plant compounds and can add warmth and flavor to your smoothie.
- Blood sugar support: Some studies suggest cinnamon may slightly improve insulin sensitivity and lower fasting blood sugar, though results are inconsistent and it’s not a replacement for medical treatment. This is one reason it’s a nice addition to a fruit-heavy smoothie.
- Antioxidants: Cinnamon is rich in polyphenols, which help counter cellular damage.
- Anti-inflammatory properties: Lab and small human studies point to mild effects, but the evidence isn’t strong enough to count on.
Honey: Honey is a natural sweetener that provides sweetness. The glucose and fructose make a smoothie more energizing before or after a workout. If you’re having it post-exercise, it helps replenish fuel alongside protein. It is still an added sugar and should be enjoyed in moderation.
